Growing Your Own - A Creative Approach to Sustainable Food - Newark Harvest





"Growing Your Own" is a practical hands-on Newark Harvest course led by experienced tutor Anne-Marie Glownia and funded by Newark & Sherwood College .

The course has been designed so that you can attend as many sessions as you want from just one, to all ten. The course is free but places must be booked in advance. Places will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. Everyone is welcome you do not have to have an allotment.

A list of what you will need to bring with you will be sent with confirmation of your booking.

March 13th Getting Started - choosing your plot, tools and safety

March 27th Back to Basics - Riant Growth, getting to know your soil, weed eradication, composting & cultivation methods.

April 17th Making it happen - planning for the year ahead, crop rotation, seed sowing

May 8th Keeping plants happy - plant nutrients, manures 6 fertilisers

5th June Growing in Containers — flowers and food crops

3rd July The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly ! - how pests attack, recognising diseases, physiological disorders, weeds

7th August Propagating & Growing Herbs — planting, propagating, planning and caring for a herb garden

4th September Growing vegetables — planning for the year ahead, theory and practice

2nd October Growing Under Cover — poly tunnels and greenhouses

6th November Growing Fruit-planting, pruning, care, pests and diseases

All sessions will take place at Hawton Road Allotments from 9.30am-12.30pm
