Leciester Allotment Newletter Volume 1, Issue 1.

Allotment and Gardens Council

Objectives:

1) To promote the creation of allotments and encourage their proper cultivation .

2) To encourage Allotment Societies to accept as associate members house gardeners within their area, and to offer them trading facilities.

3) To secure representation on the Allotment Users Consultative Committee and any others which deals with horticultural education.

4) To assist Societies to obtain security of tenure by urging LCC to acquire land, either by purchase or on long leases, to be administered by Societies.

5) To take steps to secure to the members of all affiliated Societies a supply of seeds,seed potatoes,fertilisers, manures.

6) To carry on active propaganda of the National society of Allotment and Leisure Gardeners, amongst unaffiliated and unorganised groups of allotment gardeners.

7) To encourage horticultural education, allotment exhibitions, and arrange lectures and demonstrations.

8) To do all things necessary for the welfare of small cultivators generally, not hereintobefore mentioned.

Geoff Walker Award Winners presentation at the Town Hall

This year saw the third annual Leicester City Council sponcered photographic competition for allotment gardeners.The presentation of the Geoff Walker awards took place at the Town Hall in December .

The competition has attracted an increasing number of entrants and the standard is improving each year.

There were two sections this year; the first prize for the ‘Wildlife on the Allotment' went to Jean Howgill of Rowley Fields. And the first prize for the ‘Spring on the Allotment' went to Peter Wolloff of Goodwood.
