PAT WHITE gets down to earth with a project for nearby schoolchildren
Amongst the allotments at the site near Macaulay Junior School, the dedicated volunteers of the Littlecoates Allotment Association have created a wildlife garden for the benefit of local school children.
The volunteers have all worked tirelessly to design and build a garden that can be used to
educate school children about healthy living and eating, growing vegetables and flowers and the wildlife that can be found in and around a garden.
While the garden is primarily to teach children about horticulture and wildlife, it is also a fun place where it is hoped they will come along and just relax and enjoy themselves.
There are lots of features including two Wendy houses and a pond. The children will get the chance to grow their own plants from seed and pot them up and watch them grow.
The pond contains lots of wildlife for them to become familiar with such as frogs, newts and fish.
Given the chance, children love gardening and it is hoped that many schools in the area will take the opportunity to become involved.
